Teaching methods
The course includes: theoretical lectures made with the aid of multimedia systems. The didactic material is uploaded before each lecture Training and laboratory activities related to the realization of numerical model of selected energetic conversion systems and of a simple electric drive suitable for automotive application.
Assessment methods
The exam includes both a project development and an oral test. The project consists of the development of an electric drive which model is developed using numerical simulation tools introduced during training activity. The text of the project will be delivered to students during classes and will be presented at the exam. The oral test is composed by two parts: 1) presentation of the developed project and validation of the obtained results. 2) testing the knowledge of the theoretical course content.
Learning outcomes
Knowledge and understanding: through lectures and numerical training, students learn the methods and main analysis techniques of static and electromechanical conversion systems.
Applying knowledge and understanding: through the autonomous project development, numerical exercises and laboratory activities related to computer aided design, students learn how to analyze the main electric drives used in the automotive sector.
Making judgments: through the engineering project development, and the discussion with the teacher, students develop the ability to integrate knowledge and handle complexity, and make choices, even on the basis of incomplete or limited information, including evaluation of impact on production costs and on the environment.
Communication skills: through the presentation of the final project and the consequent discussion with the teacher, students develop the ability to communicate the outcome of a project, using graphical and multimedia aids, in a way that they can be understood by an audience not specialized on the subject.
