Overview

Analysis and implementation of numerical methods for the solution of differential equations and optimization problems.

Admission requirements

None.

Course contents

Partial differential equations: finite difference methods and finite element method.
Numerical optimization: linear programming and simplex method, constrained and unconstrained nonlinear optimization, optimality conditions and complementarity problems, descent methods.

Teaching methods

Lectures. The course is provided in person in Italian.

Assessment methods

Written exam on questions about the course content and elective oral exam.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge, understanding of methods for the solution of differential equations and of optimization.
