Overview

The student is expected to acquire a complete, specific and in-depth knowledge of environmental issues.
Considering that this is a subject of a Master's Degree Course, which already presupposes an adequate and thorough preparation and overall training of the student and the ability to analyse and learn methodology, the educational objective is to provide, in addition to a thorough knowledge of the subject, further interpretative and critical tools to operate in a reality of increasing complexity and variability, so as to achieve the ability to apply the knowledge acquired and be able to formulate and argue independent judgments, and identify appropriate solutions with regard to concrete cases. Last but not least is the objective of personalising education through the possibility of in-depth studies aimed at the student's specific interests in a logic of orientation in the identification of fundamental professional aptitudes.

Teaching methods

Teaching of the environmental subject, with particular attention to the most significant and problematic institutes, in an international, community and interdisciplinary perspective. The teaching method is based on the study and use of the relevant legal sources. Optional seminars on practical cases, both with the participation of experts in the field and with the active involvement of the students. Optional workshops aimed at the practical application of the knowledge acquired, including through group activities under the coordination of the teacher. Optional in-depth studies, either individual or in groups, on topics of choice agreed with the teacher and subsequent presentation in the virtual classroom by means of an oral report or Power Point presentations, videos or other methods, under the teacher’s supervision. Communication methodologies will be explained to the students. This activity is aimed at enabling students to acquire the ability to deepen the knowledge they have acquired, to train independently and work in teams, and to develop communication skills. The course will take place on campus. Attendance is not mandatory. The language of delivery will be Italian.

Assessment methods

During the lessons, an optional intermediate oral test will be carried out on the first part of the programme in order to allow a gradual assimilation of knowledge. Intermediate test assessment will consist of a judgment, according to a previously published assessment grid. For those who pass the mid-term test with a positive mark, the relevant part of the syllabus will be deducted from the final examination. The final mark is determined by the mid-term test and the result of the final oral examination. If the intermediate examination is not satisfactory, or if the student wishes to improve his or her preparation, he or she may take another examination covering the same part of the programme at the same time as the final examination. The final examination takes place in oral form with at least two further questions on the other two parts of the programme. The interim tests will be valid only up to the September exam (included).Students who do not take the intermediate examination will be tested by means of an oral examination consisting of at least three questions in order to check their preparation in all parts of the programme. All students are given the opportunity, if they so wish, to study in depth individual problems of a certain complexity and, if necessary, to present them in the virtual classroom alongside the teacher or by means of Power Point or other methods agreed upon in advance with the teacher. This in-depth study will replace an oral question in the final examination on the in-depth part. The exams will be held according to the Academic Calendar; students are required to register for the exam through the esse3 portal. Exams will take place on campus.

Learning outcomes

1)Knowledge and Ability to Understand:
Through the lessons and seminars on the most debated and significant issues, the student acquires a complete knowledge of the main contents and fundamental institutions of environmental law.
2) Applied Knowledge and Ability to Understand:
The student develops the ability to apply the acquired knowledge.
3)Autonomy of Judgment:
Through the lessons, in which active participation is encouraged by means of continuous classroom discussion, and through practical exercises, in which the autonomous capacity of reasoning and analysis of the cases and institutions examined in the light of the theoretical training received and in an interdisciplinary perspective is stimulated, the student is able both to formulate and argue autonomous judgments, and to identify appropriate solutions with regard to concrete cases.
