Overview

To provide future nurses and midwives, who are about to enter the profession, with the following: - a basic knowledge of the Italian legal system, which is an essential requirement for the proper performance of their respective professions; - the elementary concepts of the principal crimes against persons and, within the context of civil law, of the various professional liability profiles with respect to their assigned responsibilities;;- an understanding of the importance of the doctor/nurse/ midwife-patient relationship and the legal status of the midwife and registered nurse within the current social healthcare system, with its associated obligations; legal issues regarding the management of the nursing and/or obstetric chart and the care of patients;- an understanding of the collaborative role of the nurse and/or midwife with the medical staff; professional responsibilities, skills and professional autonomy; role within the health care organization; - the legal bases for professional liability; fault and its constitutional elements; fault on the part of managers in the supervision and selection of employees; liability within a team; relationship with management; - an understanding of miscellaneous ethical-deontological issues; VTOP,assisted fertilization, clinical experimentation, palliative care, AIDS;- for midwifery students only: knowledge for managing the delivery room, performing fetal heart monitoring, determining fetal maturity, understanding the issues of criminal abortion and infanticide, assisting with childbirth, working effectively with doctors, and recording information for birth certificates; - an outline of thanatology and legislation regarding the death certification
To provide nurse deontology knowledge to guide the profession. To stimulate reflection on ethical and deontological content stressed by new code of ethics
