Admission requirements


Course contents

-Review of grammar.
-Medical vocabulary (parts of body, psychiatric diseases, hospital departments, basic equipment, hospital staff)
-Simple reading authentic texts relevant to the profession.

Teaching methods

In addition to traditional teaching (including but not limited to the use of fotocopies and powerpoint slides), teaching will be based on tasks and activities. These will both consolidate the students' lexico-grammatical skills, and implement reading comprehension skills with reference to medical/scientific texts at a B1 level.

Assessment methods

The final examination will be a written test. In particular, that will include: - gap-filling exercises testing the students' grammatical skills. - reading comprehension activities; - gap-filling tasks aimed at testing the students' acquisition of healthcare-related lexical skills.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge acquisition: teaching will lead the students to consolidate their knowledge of English grammar and to acquire the fundamentals of healthcare-related lexis.
Knowledge application: the course will serve as a basis for the students to approach healthcare-related texts, by understanding and summarising their key-contents.
Autonomous assessment: the students will learn how to decode the complexity of healthcare-related texts.
Communicative skills: teaching activities will get the students to communicate with other healthcare operators at an intermediate level, draft and read short texts from their own field of expertise.
Learning skills: the students will be instructed about the methods to maintain and further improve their knowledge of the language.
