Overview

Legal medicine: acquisition of skills relating to the legal and deontological implications of the relationship between health professional and patient, the essential profiles on health professional liability and on the protection of privacy.
Occupational medicine: elements relevant to the exercise of the health professions, and in particular the relationship between work and health, the principles of health promotion in the workplace, the main risk factors related to the exercise of the health professions and indications on their prevention
Labour law: acquisition of the essential elements of labour law with reference to safety at work
Company organisation: acquisition of an adequate awareness of the company organisation seen from the perspective of Clinical governance and in particular according to the Chambers tree model as well as the main tools related to the related areas.
For Physiotherapy, Psychiatric Rehabilitation Techniques and Speech Therapy
Management in rehabilitation: acquisition of elements of evidence-based practice, with reference to the core competences defined for the training of health professionals.
For Occupational Therapists and Speech and Language Therapists:
Medical Statistics: to consolidate some notions of statistics; to acquire theoretical-practical notions on the main statistical methods and tests functional to a critical reading of the evidence; to develop practical skills in the construction and organisation of a data base.
For Occupational Therapists and Psychiatric Rehabilitation Technicians:

Admission requirements

In order to follow the course, the student must possess adequate basic cultural competences proper to the level of
higher education, as well as basic knowledge of the functioning of healthcare systems.

Legal Medicine CFU 1
Professional secrecy and privacy, compulsory and permissive grounds, certificate, report and complaint to the health authority, criminal and civil health professional liability.
Occupational Medicine CFU 1
Prevention and health promotion in the workplace: introduction and general principles. The main
Workers' health risk factors. Health alterations from occupational risk factors.
Gender aspects. Accidents and occupational diseases. Prevention of work-related health alterations. Occupational medicine: activities, objectives. The regulatory basis of prevention activities and
health promotion in the workplace. The main occupational risks of health personnel and their
prevention: general framework, biological risk, chemical risks, physical risks, musculoskeletal diseases
work-related diseases and other risks related to work organisation. Prevention activities for graduates
in the Health Professions
Labour law CFU 1
Safety at work, from a legal point of view: the sources, the content of the safety obligation; the subjects; the supervisory bodies; legal responsibilities.
Healthcare organisation CFU 1
Historical introduction to Clinical governance, the Chambers model, corporate organisation, clinical governance tools, Evidence based practice and policy, Quality Assurance and System of Quality, Audit and Evaluation, performance and Accountability, Health Technology Assessment, Risk management, Health Communication
Rehabilitation Management CFU1
Risk of bias associated with major epidemiological study designs. Elements of internal and external validity assessment of a clinical trial, with a focus on the randomised controlled trial. Basics of assessing the relevance of study results.
Medical Statistics CFU 1
Review of types of variables. Presentation of different analysis approaches depending on the type of variable available. From problem definition to statistical measurement through the setting of the clinical question. Creation of a database and how to enter data for the purpose of the thesis. Classroom exercises. Review of statistical significance and hypothesis testing. Examples of the most frequent statistical tests: chi-square and Student's t. Correlation study and linear regression. Risk measures. How to read and interpret the results of the most frequent statistical methods and the meaning of the associated p-value. Examples of bivariate tables and multivariate analysis.

Teaching methods

Lectures and classroom exercises. In-depth study of texts/online research.

Assessment methods

Assessment of skills acquisition by means of a written test.
