Teachers
Overview
The teacher's target is leading all students to a basic but complete knowledge of the most important notions of Roman private law, just for a better understanding of our (and European) legal roots, of our juridical, social and ethical system.
Admission requirements
None in particular, but it's very important the state of mind of the students: curiosity, attention, concentration and partecipation at the work of the teacher could be very useful for learning this study subject.
Course contents
Sixty hours of oral lessons about the following items of Roman private law:
- rights, law and its sources;
- humans rights, slavery in the ancient world and family law;
- the trial;
- property;
- obligations and contracts.
Teaching methods
The teacher explains verbally the topics during the lessons, also asking questions to the students to check their understanding and encourage themselves to express their opinions, doubts and personal thoughts on the topics explained. The teacher also uses the Dolly platform for introducing the ancient sources' translations, schemes, advices and suggestions for students' individual study. The course is offered in the First semester on line due to Covid-19 situation.
Assessment methods
The teacher, in the middle of the Course, prepares a written test (with multiple choices) on the themes explained during the oral lessons, for the attending students (those who have the majority of the signatures taken by the teacher during the Course): this test is facultative and not binding for the vote of the final exam. Exams will take place either on campus or on line depending on the evolution of the Covid-19 situation.
Learning outcomes
- Knowledge and understanding: during lessons, students could learn basic notions of Roman private law which was the pattern of our (and european) legal and juridical system.
- Applying knowledge and understanding: asking questions to the teacher and using all the study materials on Dolly platform, the students become able to verify their personal level of understanding and preparation.
- Making judgement: thanks to the written test and the interaction with the teacher and the other students, the students could verify their preparation and correct any error in study method and comprehension.
-Communication skills: through the dialectical method used by ancient jurists, students could learn not only the concepts of Roman private law but also the better way to express their opinions, using the argumentative method.
- Learning skills: all these activities are thought by the teacher for helping students to use at their best all their abilities and language in a proper way, to comprehend our legal system and social reality and become good jurists.
