The educational objective, to be achieved through participation in classes and through individual study, consists in the acquisition of the fundamental notions of substantive criminal law, with particular reference to the constitutional principles relevant to criminal matters, the main institutes of the theory of crime and the structure of the penalty system.

Admission requirements

Compliance with the propaedeuticities of Institutions of Roman Law, Institutions of Private Law, and Constitutional Law.

Course contents

The course will focus on the "general part" of criminal law, specifically around punishment and the most significant core of the theory of crime, making constant reference to constitutional principles and the structure of crime (tort and culpability).

The 9 CFU are distributed as follows:
- 1 CFU (7 h) the constitutional principles
- 3 CFU (21 h) the sanctioning system
- 3 CFU (21 h) analysis of the crime
- 1 CFU (7 h) the forms of manifestation of the crime
- 1 CFU (7 h) case history analysis

Teaching methods

The course consists of 63 hours of face-to-face instruction and includes assessment of the general part of criminal law.

Assessment methods

Verification of learning involves an oral test. There are no programme reductions for those attending the classes.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge and exposition in appropriate language of criminal law. Ability to make independent judgments.
